“Our life is the sum total of all the decisions we make every day, and those decisions are determined by our priorities.”

It was the summer before my freshman year in high school. It was the first time in my life that I took a proactive approach to losing weight. Growing up I was always active and played many sports but I was always overweight.

One day I just decided that I didn’t want to be overweight anymore so I told my mom that I wanted to lose weight before high school started. One day after work she surprised me with a Gazelle Walking Machine, made famous by Tony Little, you remember the dude with the huge quads and an awesome ponytail on those infomercials.

I told myself that after dinner every night I would burn 900 calories according to the display on the walking machine. I’m not quite sure where I came up with that number but I stuck to it. My little brother must have hated me at the time because we shared bedrooms and that Gazelle barely fit between our two beds and it was always out.

I did that the entire summer without waiver. Through the disciple of exercising and training and being more aware of what I ate  I lost 20lbs. By the first day of high school, I had a new found confidence I’d never had.

That decision eventually led me to play football where I learned how to strength train. Almost twenty years later I now own my strength and conditioning facility. All because of that one decision.
