Everyone, whether they realize it or not, has a few defining moments in their life that they’ll never forget. This one is mine.
I was encouraged by a good friend to spend the summer in Colorado with him and his college friends as a camp counselor. At first, I was very hesitant, not only did I have to apply for this position in which I had no experience, I had to stop everything I was doing for 3 months.
What was I going to do with all my belongings if I got the position? How was I going to pay to get there? What would I tell my boss?

I went back and forth with this decision for weeks. I knew that the longer I waited the less chance I would have so I applied.
“What’s the worse that could happen?” I told myself.
A week later, I received an acceptance letter. Everything else worked itself out. My boss gave me time off because season was slow. I was able to keep my belongings in the garage of a friends house, and I was able to save money by taking a road trip to Colorado.
When you’re fully present and living life to the fullest there’s no way of telling that that moment in time will define you until years later.
Looking back 10 years ago the trip to Colorado was one of those moments.
I climbed 14,000ft mountains, I rode horseback near a ridge that could have killed me, and I met the most amazing people from all over the world.
When I got back home I felt like something was missing. I admit I became quite melancholy for weeks to follow. I longed to surround myself with those types of people again and the experiences that came with it.
I kept in close contact with my friend from college. This would eventually lead me to getting accepted to the University of Florida where he was already attending.
Taking that leap of faith allowed me to continue to make decisions that have lead me to where I am today. I will cherish that moment forever as the best summer of my life while always trying to remind myself to remain present with everything I do.
