The Secret Is There Is No Secret

Last year I had the bright idea that I was going to lose weight starting November 1st. That means I had to manage the plethora of food and drinks for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Year.

That means I had to manage the plethora of food and drinks for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Year.

I never gave up.

Today marks my 400th day tracking my food. I lost 25 pounds since and I never had to take away my black beans and rice!

Some days I went over my caloric goals and other days I was severely under.

My secret. I was consistently average.

Ray Allen adds in his farewell Letter to My Younger Self explaining the similarities he saw in both the championship winning teams he was on:

The personalities on those two teams will be different, but both teams will have the same thing in common…Boring old habits. I know you want me to let you in on some big secret to success in the NBA.The secret is there is no secret.

Why are we being sold “Learn the Secret to A Happy Life”, “Top Secrets to Building Wealth”, “Secrets to a 6 Pack”. You must understand that is a marketing tacit to get you to buy. To make you feel that if you do this one thing life will be perfect.

I wasn’t perfect.

There’s no such thing.

Not by a secret but by honest, consistent, and unwavering work ethic.

Going to the gym for 10 hours in one day will not give you the same results as if you went to the gym for an hour a day for the next 10 days.

Consistency is key. It is King. It trumps the trump.

Find that and the results will come and always stay.
