Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication

“Don’t make the process harder than it is”

It was Leonardo Da Vinci who said that “simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” From my own experience, he was right.  Everything we want to achieve is both simpler than we can imagine and more complicated that we can conceive.  Creating something from nothing sounds complicated but the process is quite simple. Whether it’s buying a new house or running your first marathon (which I did once, and will never do again!), the process of achieving anything in life comes down to these four steps:

1. Decide what you want.
2. Write it down.
3. Make a plan.
4. Work on it every day.

From the moment I decided to go back to college, to a decade later when I opened my gym it all came down to…

  1. making a decision on what I wanted
  2. writing it down to make it more real
  3. creating a plan of logical steps
  4. and doing something every day that helped turn my WANT into reality

I think sometimes we can complicate the process so much that it handicaps us from ever taking the first step. Who knows maybe your next work of art becomes the next Mona Lisa.
