“The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine.”
On Wednesday and Friday mornings I get up at 4:02 am. That gives me enough time to drink my coffee, read a few pages out of my book, and shower before I head to work at 5:05 am.
I own a small business and with that comes doing things you wouldn’t normally do to provide for your family. Getting up at 4 am is something I would NEVER do if I didn’t own a gym. To ensure the best possible outcome on these days here are three routines I follow diligently…
1. I set my clothes up on the living room chair. This allows me to get dressed quickly while not having to make a ruckus looking for an outfit. It also respects my wife’s sleep.
2. I have my coffee ready to go. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve spilled the coffee grounds being half asleep. That’s a crappy way to start the day. So instead I set it up on a timer so that when I wake up, it’s already made for me.
3. I set two alarms on two separate devices. There’s nothing worse than not having your alarm go off when you need it to wake you up or accidentally turn the alarm off half asleep.
The days I don’t have this routine set up the more challenging it becomes for me to get focused and ready for work. It was my boy Benjamin Franklin who said: “if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.” It’s not that people are hoping to fail it’s just that they don’t realize that they are setting themselves up for failure without even realizing it because they don’t have a daily plan in place.
This is the same reason many people are utterly unsuccessful on their weight loss aspirations during the weekends. No plans, no routine, no consistency. That is a sure way to fail. If we all treated our weekends like our weekdays, I bet we’d all be walking around with eight-packs! I like that idea!
